LOUISIANA GOLF ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES 2010 CHAMPIONSHIP SCHEDULE

October 6, 2009  --  Lafayette, LA  --  The Louisiana Golf Association announced its 2010 Championship Schedule on Tuesday.  The LGA will again conduct nine Championship and 16 qualifying events during 2010, beginning in late April with the Club Team Championship and concluding in mid September with the Senior 4-Ball Championship.

“We are extremely excited about our 2010 LGA Championship schedule,” said LGA President Lew Ward.  “We continue to be appreciative to our Member Clubs that are willing to give back to the game by opening their doors to our Championships.”

The LGA’s 91st Amateur Championship, an event that crowned its first champion in 1920, will be conducted June 10-13 at Koasati Pines at Coushatta, a first for the facility 30 miles northeast of Lake Charles in Kinder.  Koasati Pines hosted the LGA Club Team Championship in 2004 and has been listed as a Top Ten course in Louisiana in 2005, 2007, and 2009 by Golf Digest.

Shreveport’s Southern Trace Country Club will welcome the 2010 Mid-Amateur Championship August 6-8.  Southern Trace has hosted a number of LGA Championships over the years, including the 1997 and 2003 Amateur Championships.

The 2010 schedule kicks off with the Club Team Championship in late April at the Links course at Pelican Point Golf Club in Gonzales.  This event matches teams from LGA Member Clubs in an exciting Ryder Cup type format consisting of 4-Ball play on Saturday and individual play on Sunday.  Mid May finds Baton Rouge’s Santa Maria GC hosting the Net Amateur and Net Club Team Championships for the third consecutive year.  After the Amateur at Koasati Pines, the LGA heads to Ellendale Country Club in Houma for the Junior Amateur Championship in late June/early July.  English Turn Golf & Country Club in New Orleans, host to the LGA’s 2009 Amateur Championship, will be the site of the 4-Ball Championship in mid July.

August finds the LGA heading north to Southern Trace for the Mid-Am, then back to the New Orleans area for the Senior Amateur Championship at the TPC Louisiana, site of the annual PGA Tour’s Zurich Classic.  The season ends in Alexandria at OakWing Golf Club in September with the Senior 4-Ball Championship.

Qualifiers will again be conducted for both the Amateur and Mid-Amateur Championships.  Eight sites around the state (New Orleans, Houma, Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Lake Charles, Alexandria, Monroe, and Shreveport) will conduct sectional qualifying rounds for all entrants not exempt into Championship round play.

As has been the case over the last few years, in addition to the Overall Championship, concurrent Age-Group Championships for Age-Groups 60-64 and 65-69 will be conducted at the Senior Amateur and Senior Four-Ball events.  Individuals 70 & over may elect to compete in the Overall Championship by playing from the same tees as the Overall competitors but will also have the option of competing only in their Age Group division and playing from a more forward set of tees.

LGA Championship events are open to members of LGA Member Clubs.  For more information on LGA Championship events, how to become a LGA Member Club, or how to become a participant club in the LGA Handicap Network please contact the LGA at 337-265-3938.
